Hi. My name is Dr. Michael Olpin. I’m so glad you’re here because that means you have an interest in your health
Like just about everyone, I’ve had my own problems with stress. It’s hard to live in today’s world without feeling the effects of stress.
Thirty years ago, I decided I wanted to know everything possible about how to live a stress-free life. I decided to pursue this field professionally … and hopefully help myself with my own problems.
In that time, I’ve been blessed with many experiences that have helped. I’ve:
- taught stress management courses at several universities
- written a college-level textbook on stress management being used by many universities in the U.S. and Canada
- written several books on stress management including a best-seller
- worked individually with thousands of people on their stress
- trained hundreds of people in stress management & wellness coaching
- fixed most of my own stress-related health problems
I love learning how stress works and what we can do about it. I feel like I finally have a handle on this thing we call stress.
Many students, friends, and colleagues have said to me, “Mike. Everyone everywhere is stressed! The things you know about stress really do make a difference. They need what you know.”
It is my mission to share with you what I have learned.
What is Stress?
If you are like most people, you were taught the same thing I was – stress is something that happens to you and you just have to deal with it. There is nothing you can do about it. I am here to tell you that is simply not true.
Soon, you, too, will learn the real cause of your stress, how stress really happens, and as a result, gain immediate control over your stress.
No matter who you are, where you come from, how stressed you think you are, I believe you can dramatically reduce the stress you have in your life. You can perform better at everything you do, and feel better along the way

I used to get super bad headaches and would even at times get nosebleeds because they got so bad, but now I don’t get them as often and when I do they are way more bearable. I feel more energized throughout the day and I know it’s because of the relaxation exercise I take on my break at work.Joseph B.
During the course of this class, I have monitored my blood pressure and heart rate. Both of these have improved significantly. I used to have frequent headaches and was addicted to caffeine. I rarely have a headache anymore. I used to suffer from insomnia and would lie awake for several hours before falling asleep, rising in the morning very tired and frustrated. Using the relaxation exercise audio files and guided imagery I can now relax very quickly and typically fall asleep before even counting down past 10. Now I wake up in the morning feeling rested and refreshed. I have not had bad PTSD-type dreams for quite a while now. I am sleeping much better and getting more hours of sleep. My irritability and frustration levels have gone down significantly. But more importantly, I now know what the root of the problem was and I no longer allow myself to become angry and frustrated
I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder about three years ago. Since then I have been on and off medication, seen psychiatrists and therapists, and nothing I have tried to help manage it has been nearly as helpful as what we learned in this course. The information is so valuable and I wish everyone could take it.Courtney C.
Focus on the things you can control, and mold them how you’d like them. Let go of the need to change the things you can’t control anyway.

In the present moment, we are always free to choose what we do. There are consequences for what you do, and you may not want those consequences, but you always have a choice about what you do.
